Meet the Muses

I have bipolar disorder and so my head is full of many wonderful things at all times and so is my life, including other mental disorders that go along with my bipolar disorder. With the bipolar disorder I cycle through bouts of mania and major depression and my creativity flows in waves along with these cycles as well.

I have had disordered eating since I was a teenager and a full-blown eating disorder since the age of 18. Later in life, I developed anxiety disorder. I’ve always been exceptionally smart, so even though I can tell you I have some wisdom, I cannot attest to my common sense, so I’ll leave that be.

I also am two years sober from alcohol addiction. I’m less sober than that from prescription drug addiction via suicide attempts, but we can get into that in later posts. The point is that many bipolar people face challenges with alcohol and drug addictions. Now that you have met the THINGS that my Muses embody in my life, click below on the seven individuals titled The Muses to meet Muse individually.

Also below are my Shamanic Allies who live in the Otherworldly realms to which I journey and seek guidance from them regularly. They have all given me permission to share their information with you through my writing.

Sophia, The Muse of Wisdom

Sophia is the sage woman in my life. She always has some words of advice to offer me and she is always right. She’s like my second mother. Sophia is beyond intelligent, she’s wise. I met Sophia as a kid, when my Momma first taught me to read and she has been a solid mentor ever since. She’s an important woman in my life and I truly cherish our connection. She’s always with me when I’m doing my research, reading or she even teams up with Cherie when I’m writing. They are great friends. In fact, the only other Muse Sophia does not really get along with is Elixir and they clash on many occasions.

Cherie, The Muse of Creativity and Keeper of the Gardens

Creativity and writing as well as becoming my true self

Cherie is the most diverse, creative and intense person I’ve ever come in contact with and we’ve been friends since the age of eight. She has a fabulous fraternal twin sister, Chanae, and Cherie and Chanae are very close. They are immigrants from France and still travel back and forth from the United States to Paris quite regularly. They have an adorable French accent and do absolutely whatever pleases them. Cherie is a fabulous writer, but she is an equally skilled artist (you name it, she does it), actor, musician (yes, she plays that, but her favored instrument is the violin because she says it speaks to her the most), pretty much any creative activity, Cherie is brilliant at doing.

Later in my life, once I began my Shamanic journey, I found out that Cherie happened to be one of my Allies as well as my Muse. She has been assisting me on my path to becoming my true self.

Famina, The Muse of Eating Disorders

Famina is perfect. Literally. I totally aspire to be like her. Famina is the happiest person I know. She’s a unerring perfectionist in all things, but this only endears her more to me since she puts her whole heart and soul into everything she undertakes. She’s a model, working in print and on the runways all over the world. But I’ve known Famina since girlhood and grew up with her, then we became super, super close, like sisters, in college. We were inseparable. We were the salt and pepper pair that went everywhere and did everything together. We even finished each other’s sentences because we knew one another so well. Although Famina and I are now more independent, we are still very close and keep in constant communication.

Jade, The Muse of Anxiety Disorder

Jade is my shyest friend, who is socially awkward around other people, but who is such a strong person that I admire her so very much. We’ve been friends most of my adult life. She’s a truly kick ass warrior who never ceases fighting for what she believes and she always seems to have a cause that she’s fighting for or struggling against. And, yes, she’s a trained ninja. She’s one of the most powerful women that I have ever come to know.

Elixir, The Muse of Addiction

Elixir is my elegant enabler friend who inexplicably always wears that formal Merlot-colored gown and hair and shows up barefoot with alcohol or some form of drugs, whether it be prescription pills or illegal substances. At times, when my situation is really dire, she shows up, not in her corporeal form, but as a bright, Merlot-colored dragonfly who pushes her thoughts directly into my mind. She’s a brilliant sommelier and knows everything there is to know about alcohol and anything else to which it’s possible to become addicted.

Natasha, The Muse of Mania

Natasha is my blue-haired, sexually forward, always moving, shopping fanatic friend. Yes, she’s trouble with a capital T, but man is she fantastic to be around. Except when she isn’t. Then, I don’t mind if I do slam that door in her face, but it’s not quite that easy to get rid of her once she shows up. But mostly she’s a blast and I love having her visit me. Except that one time she absolutely had me believing it was a great idea to go buy a car on a Monday morning for $35,000, which I didn’t have and couldn’t even afford the $550 per month payments on, but somehow she convinced the sales rep to let us walk out the door with my shiny new car. Ridiculous situations like that always make me wary when she shows up on my doorstep. She’s the type of friend who definitely has to be managed, or she gets out of control. But she’s great friends with Cherie, The Muse of Creativity, and they often visit me together, which I absolutely adore.

Melancholy, The Muse of Major Depression

Melancholy is my oldest friend. I mean, we go way back to my earliest memories in girlhood. She’s always been, and so she has become, the ultimate caretaker in my life. She’s that friend I can always rely upon. Plus, she’s always got something up her sleeve to try to make me feel better (or so she thinks). And how does she look so good while doing it? I can never figure that one out. Even after all these years together, she never changes. It’s like she’s perpetually 29 years old—the age I found I was bipolar.

Angelene, Lady in White

Success in business

The Lady in White chooses to wear this virginal color because it has a profound affect on the mind and body. It aids in mental clarity and can promote feelings of fresh beginnings and renewal. The color white also assists in various cleansing activities or rituals, clearing obstacles and clutter. White encourages the purification of thoughts and actions. White gemstones, such as diamonds, are believed to help create new beginnings. Perhaps this is the reason for choosing diamonds as an engagement ring gem. White gemstones are also reported to remove prejudice and pre-conceived notions as well as to clear emotional clutter and silence the inner critic. I think these are all things that Angelene is attempting to teach me when we meet in the Otherworld, particularly as they relate to business principles.

Athena, Goddess of Wisdom

Teacher in all things

Athena often appears to me in the form of a great Owl and then transforms into her Goddess form. She is a warrior Goddess of Wisdom, Courage, Inspiration, Civilization, Law and Justice, War, Mathematics, Strength, Strategy, The Arts, Crafts and Skill. When she is in a serious mood she appears in her full Ancient Greek battle dress with sword, helmet and spear. Athena came to me early in my Shamanic journey experiences, along with Teagin, The Blacksmith, telling me that she and my other Allies had been trying to make contact with me for some time. Athena assists me in any questions I may bring to journeyspace.

Hummingbird

The abundance of energy

Hummingbird is an amazing creature who communicates with me not through words, but through energy and movement. This is quite a spectacular thing to experience and one that I will try to describe to you throughout the blog when you encounter Hummingbird through my journeys. Hummingbirds, as a species, symbolize eternity — their vibrant wings make a figure eight pattern when they fly, which is the symbol for infinity.

Isis, Goddess of Mystery and Magic

Seeing all the magic that exists in the world and learning from it, stability as well as teacher in all things

Isis is the Great Mother who originated from the Egyptian Pantheon as mother to Horus, falcon God of the sky, sun and moon and wife of Osiris, God of the afterlife, the Underworld and rebirth. There’s a terribly interesting story about Horus’s birth which I’ll get into when I write Isis’s individual post. For now, let me say that Isis is a gentle Goddess who speaks from a wise heart, always knowing exactly what to say, though she has her cryptic moments. But in light of the fact that she introduced herself to me as the Goddess of mystery and magic, she has every right to be as mysterious as she wants.

Isis is known as the Mother Goddess and also as the Goddess of Kingship (and protecting the kingdom), the Sky, Magic, Wisdom and, ultimately, anything in the entire Cosmos.

Meliak, Golden Dragon

Teacher in all things

Meliak is a Golden Dragon—symbolizing prosperity, wealth, intuition, illumination, strength and reason. His golden color symbolizes the sun, the heavens and divine power. Every time I have the opportunity to visit with him, he greets me with fire spewing from his massive mouth. He is truly awesome to behold. He has taken me flying on his back simply to feel the freedom in the act of being a part of the wind. Despite what you may think due to his immense size or ferocious strength, Meliak has always had a knack for putting me directly at ease in his presence. Meliak is my most ancient of teachers, schooling me in all areas.

Morrigan, Goddess of Birth and Death and Raven

Teacher in all things

Morrigan/Raven is a versatile teacher of all things who transforms from her animal incarceration into a raven haired Goddess. I recently learned her name, but for a long while after I met her, this had not been among her gifts to me. She is the Celtic Goddess of Birth, Death, Midwives, Healing and the Moon.

Nike, Goddess of Victory

Everything related to addiction recovery

The great Nike is the Greek Goddess of Victory and claims a special place in my heart because before I ever met her in the Otherworld, I wrote my second novel, Leaves of the Immortal, centered around her (and her line of female demigod children). She is known for riding in a great chariot led by white horses onto the battlefield and crowning the victors with laurel wreaths. Among other things, Nike works with me on my recovery from the various addictions in my life.

Pegi, Pegasus

Choice, stamina, success in business and freedom

Pegasus is a divine, white, winged stallion who lets me get away with affectionately calling him Pegi. We have a strong mind connection and that’s how we communicate when he isn’t whinnying to or snorting auspiciously at me or prancing around and stomping his hooves. Which, by the way, did you know that everywhere Pegasus’s hooves touch the earth, a divine spring sprouts? Pegasus is incredibly strong and often takes me up into the sky. He teaches me expertly about choice, freedom and stamina, all of which I am in continuous need of reminding. He also encourages and teaches me about success in business, working in tandem with the Lady in White.

Queen of the Sidh

Magical arts

The Queen of the Sidh (pronounced SHEE) is the Celtic Queen of the Fey Folk, Fairies or the Little People. She is known by many names and still has not told me a single one, even though I’ve asked. Names are sacred and giving them away to others is a special thing. The fact that I’m sharing the names of my Allies with the world is a big deal and I did receive permission from each Ally beforehand. In fact, often, Shamanic practitioners do not share their Allies with anyone else at all, but keep them as a private, personal experience. I have received permission from my Allies to share them with the world in my writings so that I may hopefully bring joy and peace to someone, somewhere. I say all that to say that the Queen of the Sidh is a mysterious enigma to me still, one which I will work on getting to the heart as I continue my journey. The Queen is an excellent teacher of all things magical and is also an exceptional conversationalist.

Storm, Black Panther

Teacher in all things, especially letting go, forgiveness of what I have done in the past

Storm was my first introduction to the Otherworld. She is a Black Panther whom I met during my very first Shamanic journey. We have a special ancient oak tree in the sacred grove that we like to hang out in. We sit up on one of its thick branches and talk. The Panther is known to be a very ancient spirit guide. Panthers symbolize the reclamation of power, the feminine, guardian energy, light and dark as well as death and rebirth. Storm is a very close Ally who has been a teacher in all things, especially assisting me with letting things go and learning to forgive myself for past experiences I cannot change.

Teagin, The Blacksmith

Teacher in all things, especially relationships and love

The Blacksmith and I are very close. He has even blessed me with a visit to his Workshop, which was an extremely emotional and empowering experience. I have great respect for Teagin, as I do for all of my Allies and this rapport is important because in journeyspace, oftentimes Shamanic practitioners are sharing deeply personal experiences, thoughts and working through current, past or ongoing challenges that are affecting their lives. Teagin is always there to counsel me with all the tough stuff, especially when it relates to love and relationships.

Tehana, Snow Leopard

All things to do with writing and creativity

Snow Leopard is an Ally that I met very early on in my Shamanic experiences. Tehana can often be found mothering her baby cubs, just as she mothers me with my writing. She gifted me a beautiful Writing Cottage to which she takes me often to teach me writing lessons and everything I need to learn about being a good writer and creative. By no means have I completed my studies; so far I’ve only scratched the surface, I suspect. I very much look forward to the next visit with Tehana.
